Team CanadaTeam Canada Roster Predictions – 4 Nations Face-Off

Here is our picks for the Canadian Team. Yes we are aware that some players have already been named to the team, but these are our selections if it was up to us.

Goaltenders

Let’s start with the position that many suggest will be a point of weakness for Canada, goaltending. Our picks for the three goaltenders for Team Canada include:

Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues
Marc-Andre Fluery – Minnesota Wild
Cam Talbot – Detroit Red Wings

Tendys like Adin Hill, Stuart Skinner or Sam Montembeault just have not looked consistent enough. Fluery has played for Canada before and brings a veteran presence to the keepers and can step in as needed to play.

Defense

This is where it gets interesting. With the extra defenseman for the roster, here are the seven rearguards that we think should be on Team Canada’s blueline:

Devon Toews – Colorado Avalanche / Cale Makar – Colorado Avalanche

Josh Morrisey – Winnipeg Jets / Brandon Montour – Seattle Kraken

Shea Theodore – Vegas Golden Knights / Noah Dobson – New York Islanders

Dougie Hamilton – New Jersey Devils

Other considerations included: MacKenzie Weegar of the Calgary Flames, Morgan Reilly of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Alex Pietrangelo of the Vegas Golden Knights

Forwards

There is no shortage of highly skilled forwards to go around for Team Canada. You could argue that they could ice a second team with the plethora of skilled Canadian forwards.

Steven Stamkos – Nashville Predators / Connor McDavid* – Edmonton Oilers / Mitch Marner – Toronto Maple Leafs

Brad Marchand* – Boston Bruins / Sidney Crosby* – Pittsburgh Penguins / Nathan MacKinnon* – Colorado Avalanche

Travis Konecny – Philadelphia Flyers / Brayden Point* – Tampa Bay Lightning / Sam Bennett – Florida Panthers

Connor Bedard – Chicago Blackhawks / Mark Scheifele – Winnipeg Jets / Nick Suzuki – Montreal Canadiens

Jordan Eberle – Seattle Kraken

*indicates players already named to the team.

Additional forwards that were considered included: Brandon Hagel of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Zach Hyman from the Edmonton Oilers, Sean Monahan from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Bo Horvat of the New York Islanders, and Carter Verhaeghe of the Florida Panthers.

Surprised with some of our picks? Jordan Eberle has scored some of the biggest goals for Canada as a World Juniors players and was off to a tremendous start this season as the newly named captain of the Seattle Kraken. Currently out with an injury if Ebs is healthy by February he should be considered. A little bit of grit and some high octane talent on team Canada. With the United States being the favourite to win the tournament, Canada should be able to give then a good run.

Captains for Team Canada

Here is our picks for the players that should get a letter for the team.

Captain: Sidney Crosby – Pittsburgh Penguins

Assistant Captain: Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers

Assistant Captain: Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche

Assistant Captain: Josh Morrisey – Winnipeg Jets
