The Top 10 Hockey Movies of All Time
Ok so we all know that hockey is the greatest sport of them all, and we know that there are a ton of great football and baseball movies out there, but what about all of those great hockey movies out there? Hockey movies you say? Yup let’s count them down. Here for your viewing pleasure are the top ten greatest hockey movies of all time.
#10. Slapshot 2: Breaking the Ice (2002) – Bringing back the Hanson brothers from the original Slap Shot movie, this 2002 follow up pays tribute to the hockey classic and adds some unique twists to the familiar story. Stephen Baldwin and Gary Busey lead this cast of hockey heroes and zeros on a humorous ride across the ice.
#9. D2: The Mighty Ducks (2004) – Coach Bombay (Emilio Estevez) is back in the second instalment of the Mighty Ducks. Team USA competes in the Junior Goodwill Games but can they beat a larger, stronger, faster, meaner team?
#8. The Rocket (2005) – the patented stare of the Rocket. Maurice “Rocket” Richard was one of the greatest scorers the game has ever seen. The fiery French Canadian was a fan favourite and was known for a infamous riot after receiving an untimely suspension. Complete with rises and falls and endless perseverance, Richard’s story depicts his unwavering respect for the sport and the humble way in which he carried his athletic gifts.
#7. Net Worth (1995) – Great, great, great movie about how Ted Lindsay paved the way for future NHLers. Ted worked tirelessly to make the rights of hockey players as important as the money the team owners made from the games. Net Worth takes a hard look at the battle to recognize hockey as a full-time sport and as a full-time job for the players and their families.
#6. Mystery Alaska (1999) – I liked this movie. Big league hockey comes to small town Alaska. Great cast and interesting idea for a movie. Great performances from :

#5. The Mighty Ducks (1992) – Emilo Estevez coaching a bunch of sad sack kids? This is a great family movie that helped promote the launch the Anaheim NHL franchise. An enjoyable hour and a half with some pretty funny moments.
#4. Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story (2010) – Chronicles the life of Don Cherry, from playing minor league hockey to coaching the NHL’s Boston Bruins. This CBC movie won a number of awards including a Gemini for Jared Keeso for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series
#3. Miracle (2004) – Another great Disney hockey movie with a strong cast. Based on the infamous 1980 Olympic hockey game between the United States and Russia, this film epitomizes the way the human spirit can rise above any adversity. Two words Mike Eruzione.
#2. Youngblood (1986) – “let’s go… pretty boy…”. Alright so there is a little cheese in this one but really a great cast with Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves and Rob Lowe as Dean Youngblood. The penalty shot move is worth the price of admission alone.
