Hockey Pool Tips 2013: Top 150 Scorers

NHL TeamsThe season is less than a month and a half away. The annual NHL yearbooks are starting to become available and poolies all over are thinking about whom they should draft and select in their hockey pools. This year should be an interesting one as we have a number of players who have switched teams, we have new NHL divisions and we even have some teams that have swapped conferences (See Detroit, Winnipeg and Columbus).

With last year’s shortened lockout season our hockey pools were impacted by a 48 game schedule.  Now we are back to a full season and can see how some of these teams gel.  Picking your players for your hockey pools is not rocket science, but there are a  couple of tips that you should follow if you want to win your NHL hockey fantasy pool.

4 Tips For Winning Your Hockey Pool

  1. Never pick with your heart – so your favorite team is the Nashville Predators?  You might want to hold off on picking some of those Predator players.  They just don’t score a lot.
  2. Beware the injury bug – stats like points per game (PPG) are great but you want to make sure that your players are not injury prone (see Ales Hemsky, Chris Pronger, Tobias Enstrom, etc.)
  3. Pay attention to Year over Year trends – some players are hot and cold but others are more consistent.  Look at player point trends and see how your potential picks might be trending.
  4. Understand the transactions – there are always a lot of player movement in the off-season.  Keep on top of transaction so you know which players are playing with whom.

So with that lets look at last years top scorers and let the strategizing begin.
