Rating the Top 27 American-born NHL Players 2067-27 Edition

Team USA

Last spring in the 2026 Winter Olympics, the United States reigned supreme as both the women’s and mens’s team capture Gold over team Canada. Now in the case of the men’s team’s there were a couple of questionable player omissions with Evan Bouchard and Matthew Schaefer not being included on the Teram Canada roster. Both would have made a difference. Sorry Drew Doughty your time has run its course… but we digress.

Now there is an interesting trend amongst American-born NHLers in wanting to play in their home country. Matthew Tkachuk, Brady Tkachuk, Connor Hellebucyk are just a few who have, you might argue, “whined” their way out of Canada to US-based teams. This doesn’t site well with a number of hockey fans. It is a privilege to play in the National Hockey League. The team whom you get drafted by is the team you should play for. The team that you are under contract with is the team you should play for. End of story… but no, players, via their agents are wanting to leave their Canadian teams, opting to sign south of the border in their native United States of America. you have to question what would happen if it was the other way around and elite Canadian or European talent choose to only sign in Canada. You can be sure that the drought of Canadian-based teams would have been over a long time ago. US-based players are riding high right now, dictating where they want to play, but look for that to chnage at some point. For the simple fact that there are only so many US-based teams and only so many elite US players. But thats a topic for another day.

We wanted to take a look at the top American-born NHLers in the game today. Criteria is simple, performance and players who are having the largest impact on the game at the NHL level.
